Inspiration Artist - Nick Turpin
Nick Turpin is an inspiration artist for my third photoshoot as I like his use of candid photography portraying the mundane side of our lives. His photography opens a window into the lives of others and allows the viewer to connect with the subject for a split second. I used his work as inspiration in order to convey even the simplest moments in our lives. Similar to Turpin I used architecture to illustrate harsh and brutalist atmospheres as well as create isolation and an uneasy undertone. I used his images of manual labourers in my work to convey the hierarchical differences in todays society.
'Street Hard Hats'
By Nick Turpin

This photo was taken in London and presents the mundane through people in their work clothes.

I like the brightness of the high-vis jackets and used this in my third photoshoot in order to bring attention to the chosen focal point of my image.
I like the contrast between the men in the suits and the manual labourers outfits and hope to use this throughout other photoshoots to show differences in hierarchy and social status.
'Exodus”'
By Nick Turpin
I like this photo as it uses isolation and architecture to convey a harsh and brutalist atmosphere.

This photo was shot during the time of the Covid-19 pandemic and captured the silence of the streets when people were at home.
I used this photo to inspire some of the photos I took in photoshoot 3. I did this through the use of leading lines, lighting and isolated and alone people to create a focal point.
In this photo I really liked the presentation of the person as miniature and insignificant as I think it raises questions about our own purpose in our life.

In conclusion, Nick Turpin is an incredible photographer who is able to capture the elements of street photography with complete sophistication. I chose Turpin as my inspiration as I think his ability to capture emotion through architecture and street photography relates to my theme as well as my overall aim of photoshoot 03.
