Photoshoot 05 - Through a window

For this photoshoot I focused on capturing the mundane as well as how people intergrade into the world surrounding them.

For this image my aim was to capture the workers through a window to give the viewer an insight into the lives of the people. I like the cooler tones of the image as well as the symmetry created by the two workers. The bright blue of the workers contrasts the white surroundings and brings further focus to the subject. The low lighting at the bottom of the image creates a frame which brings a focus to the upper portion of the photo.

In this image I like the contrasting warmer tones, and the cooler colours reflected off the bike and in the LED sign. By taking this photo through a glass window I am able to separate the viewer from the subjects. This makes the viewer feel as though they are looking in onto someone's world. By placing the people on the third lines in the image they become the natural subject. I like how the sign in the window hides some of the subjects' facial features allowing more to be left up to the imagination of the viewer, this creates a more interesting and thought-provoking narrative.

This image was also taken through a glass window to try to distance the viewer from the people. By placing the family on the left third line of the image they become a natural focal point of the image. The lack of surrounding people emphasises the silence of the image and helps to isolate the subject from their surroundings. I plan to use this as one of my photos in my jar edits to further highlight their seclusion.

I took this photo because I like the layered composition. The isolation of the taller building is similar to some of my work in photoshoot 2 and helps to create and eerie and dark atmosphere. The bright purple colour of circular building provokes emotions of isolation. This round shape is echoed within the curves of the bus creating a cohesive composition. The isolation of the women at the top of the bus provokes sadness in the viewer. This isolation is also reflected in the bus driver directly below. I will try to highlight this isolation through my edits.

This image is also taken through a glass window to separate the viewer from the image and highlight the fact that they are viewing someone else’s world. The slight blur of the image creates a dream like quality. This is also aided by the blur of the warm lighting at the top of the image. The reflected words from busses in the background create a silent chaos and help isolate the man from his surroundings.

I took this image through I bus window taking inspiration from one of my artists, Nick Turpin. By taking the photo through a window I am able to separate the viewer from the subject to ensure that they are looking in on someone’s life. The physical journey of a bus reflects a physical journey of life which I have previously studied in photoshoot 4. Be capturing a person in their element I am able to convey their emotional journey. I placed the subject on a third intersects to draw attention to them and create a natural focal point to the image.

For these three image I took a photo of bus seats through a bus window. I took inspiration from one of my artists – Nick Turpin and his shoot “On The Night Bus”. This allowed me to capture the isolation of this environment. The image furthest to the left uses a person to present an internal isolation as the subject is viewed through a glass as they carry out the mundane. On all three images the slight reflections on the glass help to emphasise the idea that the viewer is looking upon the image and separates the viewer from the image – making them feel distanced and allowing the viewer to question the narrative of the image. The warm red colour in all these images creates a stark contrast to the darker more bleak aspects of the image and helps to bring the viewer in. The two images on the right explore empty spaces to highlight a noisy yet undisturbed silence. This creates a slightly uneasy aspect to the images.
