STATEMENT OF INTENT

I have chosen to base my project around the theme ‘people and places’. My main aim is to investigate the connection between people and the world around them. I hope to do this in busy Cities. I am interested in street photography and urban landscape. I plan on researching and utilising monochromatic photography as I find the harsh tone contrast can speak to the viewer.

My first artist review is Henri Cartier-Bresson who was a photojournalist and pioneered street photography. He worked predominantly using high contrast monochromatic photography and used leading lines to guide the eyes of the viewer around the photo.

The second artist I will research is Jean Gaumy who is a French photography and filmmaker who has been associated with Magnum photography since 1977. He working capturing people in the world surrounding them.

The third photographer I will study is William Eckersley, he is a photographer who works with photographing empty spaces, he uses colour to reflect the atmosphere of the photo. He is famous for his photoshoot called Dark City, where he captured London at night.

These three artists will help me plan my photoshoots as well as developing the composition of my photography.

I plan on taking photos of people interacting with each other as well as their surroundings. I also plan on taking photos of architecture as it is something that interests me. I want my photos to leave an impact on the viewer, and I hope to illustrate issues going on in the world through my photography.
