Photoshoot 04 - Conclusion Piece

To create my conclusion piece I started by selecting photos from my shoot which showed the progressive path of struggle and pain that is forced upon people. I chose these 5 photos as they follow on from each other from an innocent child to a busker that is beginning to work for necessary money. Then the journey progresses to a man crouched on the floor suggesting that he is struggling. This is then progressed to a women begging for food on the floor which provokes distress in the viewer. Then finally, my conclusion piece ends with a homeless man who appears to be asleep on the floor.

I then took all these photos and cropped them and put them in order on Photoshop. Crucially, I then placed the photos adjacent to one another with a connecting line through the images.

This left me with this:

Then I took my edited line of images and made it black and white and inverted it, printed it on acetate and took it to the dark room.

I then used then did I test strip and used the average values of my previous dark room edits (see above) to find the correct exposure time to create this edit:

I then experimented with different techniques including brushing and splashing on developer to create a flowing edit. However I thought that the two on the left were too busy; this detracted from the message of the piece.

Leading me to try again and come to my conclusion piece.

To then progress towards my conclusion piece I used I wide and coarse paint brush the developer through. This enabled me to physically present the progression of life through these brush strokes. The folds and lines in the developer create a loss of control in the edit an inevitable loss of control due to external factors in life.

To come to my final progression of my conclusion piece I drew a line in red around each subject of the image. Following the linking lines I had previously pieced together. This red line shows the harsh realities of life and the truth that it is extremely easy to loss control of your life and to be unable to get back on track.

I hope that this edit allows my viewer to feel sympathy and show care to the people that they see in the world around them and to take a second before judging people.
